We sorted this list by how your friends are involved. In some games they’re climbing with you and their mistakes are your mistakes. In others they’re on the couch or in the stream chat, watching you lose an hour of progress. Both count.
Co-op rage games
Chained Together
Chained to your friends, climbing out of hell. When one falls, everyone falls. It’s the game that made "co-op rage" a genre on Steam in 2024.
Why it's here: Every fall comes with someone to blame, so it’s the purest co-op rage game.
Drive UP: Together
A co-op climbing game built on a proper driving simulation. Up to eight friends drive the same route up a mountain of planks barely wider than your axles, near-vertical ramps and the insides of giant pipes. There are no checkpoints: fall off and you start again from the bottom.
Every car is solid, so the same controls let you be the bridge (park across a gap so a friend drives over you), the engine (push someone over a ledge no single car can clear) or the problem (tap a bumper one wheel from the summit).
Why it's here: No checkpoints, a steep course of thin planks and pipes, and up to seven other solid cars that can push you up or tap you off. The rage is real, but so is the rescue: four people abandoning their own runs to free a friend stuck sideways in a tube is a normal night.

PEAK
A co-op mountain climb where planning and teamwork keep you alive. It’s less of a "pure" rage game, but a bad decision high on the mountain hurts.
Why it's here: It’s the friendliest way into the genre for a group of four.
Bread & Fred
Two penguins on a rope. You can catch your partner’s fall, or cause it.
Why it's here: It’s the two-player rage game. Expect couples’ arguments.
Pogostuck: Rage With Your Friends
Rage is in the title. Everyone climbs the same mountain at once, and the tethered mode links 2–16 players with a rubber band.
Why it's here: It’s the hardest game on this list, and it’s also the one that fits the biggest group.
Solo rage games that work with an audience
Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy
The modern rage-game classic from 2017: a man in a pot, a hammer and a mountain that keeps sending you back to the start.
Why it's here: Pass the mouse around. Everyone thinks they can do it until it’s their turn.
Jump King
A knight, a tower and a jump you charge and release. Miss the landing and you can fall several screens. The sequel Jump King Quest adds online multiplayer.
Why it's here: It’s simple to understand while watching, which makes it great for streams and couch sessions.
Only Up!
The viral 2023 climber was removed from sale on Steam by its developer in September 2023. People who already own it can still download it, but you can’t buy it anymore.
Why it's here: We include it because everyone asks. If you’re looking for the Only Up! feeling today, try a game from the co-op list above.
How to survive a rage night
- Set a goal that isn’t "finish". "Beat our best height" keeps the night fun even when nobody reaches the top.
- Rotate roles. In co-op climbs, one person scouts, one helps, and one (inevitably) betrays. Swap every run.
- Record everything. The best clips come from the worst falls. Streaming and monetized videos of Drive UP: Together are welcome. See our creator page.
- Take breaks. Rage games punish tired hands. Five minutes away does more than five more attempts.

FAQ
What is a rage game?
A rage game is a deliberately hard game where one mistake can wipe out a lot of progress, often with no checkpoints. Getting Over It, Jump King and Pogostuck are classic examples.
What are the best multiplayer rage games?
For co-op, try Chained Together (1–4), PEAK (up to 4), Bread & Fred (2) and Drive UP: Together (1–8). For a shared but separate climb, Pogostuck puts everyone on the same mountain.
Can you play Getting Over It with friends?
Not in the game itself, since Getting Over It is single-player. Groups usually take turns, or stream it and watch each other.
Is Drive UP: Together a rage game?
Partly. There are no checkpoints, so a fall sends you back to the bottom. But it’s co-op, so your friends can bridge, push and rescue you. They can also knock you off.
