What counts as a co-op climbing game
We only included games where height is the goal and other players change your climb, whether by helping, by dragging you down, or both. Solo rage climbers like Getting Over It and Jump King are great, but they belong in our rage games guide.
Full disclosure: we make one of the games on this list. We put it where we honestly think it fits, and we say clearly who it’s not for.
The best co-op climbing games
PEAK
Lost scouts, one mountain, and only your friends to rely on. PEAK came out on Steam in June 2025 and sold well very quickly. It uses friends-only multiplayer with proximity chat and also has an offline solo mode. Console versions are arriving with cross-play.
Why it's here: It’s the best-known co-op climbing game today. It shines at four players and focuses on survival and teamwork more than pure precision.
Chained Together
Up to four players chained together climb out of hell. Released in June 2024, it became one of the biggest co-op launches on Steam that year.
Why it's here: The chain makes every jump a group decision. It’s great at four and a mess, in the best way, at two.
Bread & Fred
Two penguins on a rope climb a snowy mountain. Swing, belay and haul each other up, or pull your partner off a ledge by accident.
Why it's here: It’s the best pick for exactly two players and the most "cute" game on the list, though the difficulty isn’t cute at all.
Drive UP: Together
A co-op climbing game built on a proper driving simulation. Up to eight friends drive the same route up a mountain of planks barely wider than your axles, near-vertical ramps and the insides of giant pipes. There are no checkpoints: fall off and you start again from the bottom.
Every car is solid, so the same controls let you be the bridge (park across a gap so a friend drives over you), the engine (push someone over a ledge no single car can clear) or the problem (tap a bumper one wheel from the summit).
Why it's here: It’s a climbing game where you drive. Weight transfer, suspension and grip decide whether you make a ramp, and with up to eight solid cars on the same route, the other players are part of the course. Pick it if your group is bigger than four or you like vehicles more than ice axes. Skip it if you want checkpoints: there aren’t any.

Pogostuck: Rage With Your Friends
A pogo-stick precision climber where other players climb the same map alongside you. The "Tethered To Your Friends" mode joins 2–16 players with a rubber band, and there’s a separate 1–4 player dungeon mode.
Why it's here: It’s the hardcore option. The tether mode turns a precision game into a group negotiation.
Human: Fall Flat
Not a climbing game first, but a lot of its levels are about getting up somewhere with floppy arms and friends holding your legs. Online lobbies support eight players.
Why it's here: It’s the gentlest entry on the list, good for groups that include non-gamers.
Tips for climbing as a group
- Agree on the rules before the first jump. Is pushing someone off allowed? Decide now and save the argument for later.
- Send a scout. Let one player try a new section while everyone else watches the line. Watching someone fail teaches you faster than failing yourself.
- Call it out. "Going left", "wait", "I’m stuck". Short calls in voice chat stop most group wipes.
- Celebrate the falls. In climbing games the falls are most of the fun. Clip them, because the run that ends at the top won’t be the one people remember.
